Abstract

This article emerges from a theoretical research conducted in 2010, which analyses the debate concerning the normative basis of public policy in contemporary societies. In what follows we assume the challenge to refine and clarify the ethical foundations of public actions, taking into account the referential meanings and the regulatory process of formulating public policy from the perspective of the applied ethics of Paul Ricoeur. The text is displayed in three main arguments. The first section aimed to describe the structure of the applied ethics of Paul Ricoeur, the second axis presents the public policy as mediator of the social devices and the debate on its normative references, and finally the third section presents the contribution of the applied ethics of Ricoeur to the design and analysis of public policy.
