In between Past Conviction and Future Disenchantment: Political Perspectives of Caletones Cooper Foundry trade Unionists

Abstract

This article gives an account of the results of a qualitative, explanatory and interpretative study carried out with trade unionists of the Caletones Foundry of the El Teniente copper mine located in the O’Higgins region, the period prior to the coup d’etat and those who today They are in exercise. The results show four emergent phenomena from the accounts of the trade unionists, which show that the political in the union has moved from a strong interweaving to the partisan in the period prior to the coup, to a subsequent loss of the anchorage to formal politics going on today towards a resurgence in the face of the threat of organization positioning and job insecurity. The above in a scenario of identification with the work carried out, the emergence of mercantile social relations, consumerism, instrumentalization of politics and ideological decoupling.
