Abstract

This study attempts a theoretical description of Spanish non-verbal, binary syntagms by looking at them from a functional perspective on a corpus of written media from Santiago de Chile. In this analysis such syntagms were operationally defined as “Verbless constructions composed of two elements, one of which is a Noun Phrase”. This allowed the collection of the corpus,  which rendered four constants, corresponding to four patterns, whose constituents and occurrence are reported.
