This article reports on the main results of an investigation concerning lexical anglicisms in the economic discourse of scientific news articles. In order to analyse the data, multidisciplinary theoretical and methodological criteria have been used based on pragmatics, text linguistics, discourse analysis and terminology. The corpus was collected from different issues of Capital and Gestión magazines, published in Chile from 1997 to 2001. The analysis and the interpretation of the data are of a descriptive and functional character. In the first type of analysis, data like variants, types of cotexts and anglicismequivalent alternation are presented. Likewise, functional analysis allows us to determine the type of discourse function and/or textual subfunction of the anglicisms studied. For the interpretation of the data, criteria like discourse modality, speaker, audience, communicative intention and space-time situation have been taken into consideration.
